Brother® DCP-6690CW printer
The Brother DCP-6690CW inkjet multifunction printer comes with touch screen LCD and wired/wireless network features that can print with a speed of mono color Up to 35 page per minute. It is an all-in-one printer that is capable of handling A3 as well as A4 paper. The touchscreen of the DCP-6690CW is easy to use and touch with a beeped response to each virtual button-press.
This multifunction printer could be used as a colour scanner photocopier and printer so it would not only save room on your desk but would also always be on hand to get your jobs done quickly. The DCP-6690CW prints at a rate of 35 ppm for black and white and 28 ppm for colour printouts. Plus this multifunction printer also has the functions to scan directly to e-mail to create digital images and text files using OCR.
Brother is currently the only manufacturer of inkjet all in ones capable of the handling A3 as well as A4 paper. The larger paper size inevitably makes the DCP-6690CW a big machine but the Brother has done its best to keep the size down and offers some interesting extras like a wide touch screen interface, wireless connection and twin paper trays. The machine looks like a medium-sized business photocopier but with wider paper trays both for paper feed and the Automatic Document Feeder on top. The high-gloss cover to the ADF folds open to provide the paper support and the scanned pages feed to the top of the scanner cover. The flatbed scanner is of A3 size so the machine has the full A3 scan and the copy facilities as well as A3 print. This means if you only occasionally print or copy A3 pages you could leave the trays closed in their A4 position and save quite a bit of desk real estate.
- FIVE – Multifunction printer
A huge packing box hints that DCP-6690CW printer is far from the small and indeed the Brother DCP-6690CW is massive in inkjet terms. The reason for this is that it could print to A3 paper. And as Brother points out that compared to the typical A3 model the Brother DCP-6690CW is actually quite modestly proportioned. Nonetheless, this substantial printer would require significant desktop space.
- FOUR – Quality
The Brother DCP-6690CW is considerably better at graphics, issuing attractive results even in the middle mode at the rate of 3.3ppm. At the highest quality level 1.8ppm and the images have plenty of detail, even if the colour palette does not quite fizz with as much colour as you want.
- THREE – Printing
Print resolution peaks at 6,000x1, 200dpi although the Brother DCP-6690CW is not quite so stellar on speed. Its fastest text printing allows for just 11.1 pages per minute. In order to get quality text output where the character definition is sharp and possessed of considerable clarity you would have to drop down to 3.3ppm.
- TWO – Touch screen
The Brother DCP-6690CW's 4.2in touch screen LCD grabs attention, and the ability to file through options with your fingers makes it all the easier to set-up. It could also happily operate without a PC connected and switched on.
- ONE – PictBridge support
When talking about the Brother DCP-6690CW's features it is difficult knowing where to start. It is ready for both wireless and wired networks and the PictBridge support plus a battery of memory cards slots are as comprehensive as you had expected. The 50-sheet paper output tray is not perhaps as generous as we might expect, particularly given that the Brother can accept up to 400 sheets as input.
The Brother DCP-6690CW makes a good job of printing to large paper sizes. Its scanning facilities are top-notch too and the realistic image reproduction makes this extremely viable as an all-round multifunction printer particularly for photo enthusiasts.
