EPSON® Inkjet Printer
How can I troubleshoot my Epson Inkjet Printer? Can I perform a self test on my printer?
You may face problems with your Epson Inkjet Printer, especially when it is new. Generally Epson Inkjet Printers are relatively easy to troubleshoot. Most newer models show the ink to be low. Most of them have both black and colored ink cartridges, but you don't need to replace both at the same time, so you need to determine which one actually needs replacing.
If your Epson Inkjet Printer is not working properly then you may have to troubleshoot various printer problems to get it started. The five most common problems are:
- Obvious Problems
- Driver Conflict
- Cable Problems
- Jammed Paper Tray
- Unclean Printer
Check your printer, if it is plugged in or not, if the cables of your printer are well connected to the power source, if you are able to see the LED light when you press the power button, etc.
If your printer is not able to recognize the PC, then ensure that drivers are installed properly. Try to reinstall the drivers from the disc, or you can easily download print drivers from printer manufacturer’s website.
Jammed Paper Tray
Ensure that the paper tray is lined up correctly for loading. Paper jams are usually obvious, but sometimes you may face a situation when there is no indication that the paper has jammed up the printer, in that case, open it up and visually inspect it to take out the jammed paper. Make sure to use tweezers. You should never take out the papers forcefully.
This problem arises when the heads of the printer are dirty. In that case you can use the printer's self-cleaning feature, which is usually found under the driver's `Utilities’ or the printer's `Properties’ section. All you have to do is to click `Clean Print Heads.’ Or you can gently wipe down the dirt or grime with the help of a dry, lint-free cloth.
Before performing any self-test, you should always refer to your manual. You can visit Epson's technical support page and find the solutions for the common problems. In case your printer does not have a self-test, then you can print a test page from the printer's properties menu. But you should remember that running lots of tests and cleaning the heads can waste a lot of ink.
