Process

Click on 'Start' and then go to 'Printers and Faxes'. Click 'Add a Printer' and click 'Next' and click the 'A Network Printer or a Printer attached to another computer'. Click 'Next' then select 'Browse for a Printer' and click 'Next'. Select the computer name that the printer is installed on then click the printer name or IP address, click 'Next'. If your HP model is not on the list, select a comparable model number. This allows network printer wizard to install compatible drivers for the printer. Double-check that the network printer is currently listed in the 'Printers and Faxes' screen.

Use software that comes with the printer to install it on the server. Do not connect the printer until it is prompted. Some printers allow you to set the IP address from the printer itself. In this case, the software is not necessary. To access any particular features, such as editing software for the printer, the software must be installed on each individual computer. If you know the computer network path, you can type it in the 'Connect to this Printer' name box instead of using the 'Browse' feature.
