Fix Lexmark™ Printer Error in Windows® XP
There are a number of errors that deal directly with the software installed on the user’s computer. The Windows XP Lexmark printer has the potential to cause problems, especially where the computer’s software is involved. The most common errors deal with an issue regarding how the software is communicating with the printer, how the printer is communicating with the computer. Many of the problems dealing with Lexmark are problems with computer to printer interaction and require that you enter in a certain file name.

Common Errors with Lexmark Printers
An error message “IM32FAX.DIL Not Found” could mean a number of things. Most notably, it is an issue with the way that the printer software is interacting with the computer and how the computer responds to this interaction with the printer. At times, this error will show up at the computer’s start up. This simply means that there is something that is attempting to load the file when the computer begins to boot. Sometimes a simple re-installation of the software will fix the problem; however, if that is not the case, the user must attempt clean boot troubleshooting. From the Start menu, the user clicks Run, then types “msconfig.exe” and presses enter. While inspecting the Startup tab, the user should see if there are printer or fax related items, uncheck those items, click OK, then reboot the computer. If the error remains after the reboot, then the user must check and uncheck the items one at a time, rebooting each time until the solution has been found. Most likely, there is an error with the install program for Lexmark. From the Lexmark CD, copy the “im32fax.di_” code from the “Fax” folder. A simple extraction will put the missing code on your computer.
Other Errors with Lexmark Printers
There are other errors as well that pertain to the print spooler. Error code “1068” indicates that the printer spooler is not running at all. This usually results in an apparent disappearance of your printer and an inability to reinstall it with a message reading “Operation cannot be completed.” This usually means that one or more of the printer drivers is defective. Of course, the user must ensure that only those printer drivers designed for Windows is installed. Much of the issue results from an upgrade from one version of Windows to another. If this occurs, the user must delete all the printers from the Printers and Faxes folder, click File and select Server Properties. Then, the user must select the drivers tab, for each entry that reads 1, select entry 2; finally, click Remove. This will usually fix the problem which is essentially cleaning out the drivers. If this does not solve the problem, the user should use cleansple.exe from the Windows XP Resource Kit.
