Windows® XP Xerox® Printer Error
Problems associated with Xerox printers installed on Windows XP-based systems and how to fix them.
The most common errors that most users encounter when using a Xerox printer along with their Windows XP-based system is that the printer refuses to print. It’s such a common problem that many users are plagued by the task of finding out how to solve it. There are also a number of non-printing problems that come with their own error messages. Some of these are:
- Printing Timeout Error
- Error printing a test page
- Printing errors
Printing Timeout Error
One of the more common and easily fixable printer errors is printing timeout. The user will usually receive a message to the effect, “ERROR: timeout, OFFENDING COMMAND: timeout, STACK:”. When this occurs, there are a couple of different theories as to how to solve this problem. The most obvious is to force Windows to unload the offending printer. This takes a bit of effort, but nothing that is too taxing for any user with a functional understanding of computers. Firstly, the user must boot his or her computer in Safe Mode. Once the computer has finished booting, he or she should go to the ‘Printers’ folder and add a new printer, picking any generic printer for which Windows XP provides drivers (a generic HP DeskJet printer, for instance). Make this generic printer the default printer; this forces Windows to unload the previous driver. The user then uninstalls the printer giving this error and reboots the computer normally. Once the computer has turned back on in Normal Mode, the user should attempt to install the printer once more.
Error printing a test page
Another common problem with Toshiba printers occurs when the user attempts to print a test page. A message, “Test page failed to print. Would you like to: view the print trouble-shooter for assistance?” appears. The solution is similar to that for a printer failing to print anything in general. It may very well be a user permission problem, requiring the user to consider how the printer is connected to the network. If it is connected via a machine, then find out whether it is connected through a server or a workstation. Microsoft has informed users in the past that in order to solve this problem they should delete the printer on every PC connected to it and then reinstall it, thereby enabling sharing of the printer on a network. Depending on the number of PCs attached to this printer network, it could be a relatively simple solution or a rather tedious one.
The most common errors that are found on Xerox printers installed on Windows XP-based computers have to do with the printing function. The solutions are always the same. One must essentially remove the troublesome printer by forcing Windows to unload it from the computer and then reboot the computer manually.
