Samsung ML-2165W Mono Laser Printer Review
If you are looking for a compact personal mono laser printer for your desktop, the Samsung ML-2165W is a right choice. Besides occupying less space on your work station, the printer offers Wi-Fi connectivity, suitable paper capacity for a personal printer, and reasonably high-quality text and graphics.
The Wi-Fi access point enables the user to give print commands from an Android, iOS, or Windows 7-based device. Of course, you will need apps to connect to this printer with your smartphone. The apps are offered free of cost by Samsung. Measuring a mere 13 inches wide by 8.5 inches deep by 7 inches high, the printer is suitable for small work spaces. However, the printer is a little bit weak on paper handling. It offers a single 150-sheet tray, without any option for manual feed and automatic duplexing (for printing on both sides of a page). The low paper capacity means that if the print requirement is of more than 30 pages a day, then the user has to add paper often enough. However, if you are using the printer for personal use, the 150 sheets should be more than enough.
Setting up the Samsung ML-2165W is very easy. You just have to plug in the power cord, attach the small swiveling output tray to the top of the unit, and press the ‘WPS’ button (for Wi-Fi Protected Setup). A WPS-capable router is required for the setup. However, if you don’t have a WPS-supported router, you will have to attach the printer to your computer via USB to set up the Wi-Fi.
As far as the controls of Samsung ML-2165W are concerned, they are minimal. The above-mentioned ‘WPS’ button also acts as the ‘Continue/Print’ button. On holding the ‘WPS’ button for 15 seconds, you will get a status report. In addition to this, you have only the printer and toner status lights, and the ‘on/off’ button. The Samsung ML-2165W is a potentially good choice as long as you are not concerned about the running cost involved.
