Add Local Port to Printer
Tips to add local port to printer
Printer is a device which is used to print the data and information from the system. Most of the system has the ability to support the printers. But we can only install a printer in a system depending on their hardware requirements. In order to install a local printer, first plug in the device with the system. Most of the operating system such as Windows series automatically installs the printer. You can add a printer from the control panel. From the ‘Printers and Fax’ option in the control panel, you can configure the printer settings. Some of the printer comes with installation CD. You can also run this CD for the installation process. Then an onscreen instruction will appear on the screen for the installation process. After the complete installation, you can use the printer. Sometimes even if the installation takes place successfully, the printer does not work properly. This is due to any compatibility issues. That is the printer you are using may be incompatible with the operating system.
Following are the points to keep in mind while adding a local port to printer:
- Set-up the printer
- Set-up local port
- Tips for installation
Set-up the printer
Before adding local port to the printer, configure the printer set-up. This can be done in the control panel. In order to configure your printer, go to the control panel and select ‘Printer and Faxes’ option. In the printer task option clicks ‘Add a Printer’. After clicking ‘Next’ on the option there will be an ‘Add Printer Wizard’. In this wizard, select ‘Local Printer’ and select ‘Next’.
Set-up local port
The next step in this process is to set-up a local port. This can be done in the ‘Add Printer Wizard’ Window. At the bottom of this Window, there is an option ‘Create a New Port’. Here open the drop down menu ‘Type of Port’ and select 'local port'. Then click ‘Next’ button. Type the name of the local port and click ‘OK’. After that follow the onscreen instructions.
When you add local printer to your system, type the IP address of the printer on the browser properly. Otherwise the configuration process cannot be performed. The IP address of your system and the printer should be the same. Another point that should be remembered is that it is more suitable to use printer directly from the network through network adapter than via parallel port. You can also configure local port from Printer Server Properties.
