Cannot print on network printer
What are the reasons due to which you may be unable to print on a network printer? What are the ways to fix those problems?
There are a number of reasons due to which it’s unable to print on a Network and mainly if the network printer is set-up on the domain. The print spooler failing or if the spooler is out of space, it leads to network printer unable to print. The printing problem can be with the client computer i.e. the problem with the printer driver or can be due to misconfiguration settings. If the problem is with the printer server, it may be because of the bad network card or the wrong IP address. If the paper is jam, it may also cause printing problem on the network printer. If there is any problem on the network i.e. switch or router problem then network printer won’t print any documents. If the cable is being unplugged, or is connected to a VPN, that block access to your local network, the spooler won’t be able to connect to your printer.
Following are the ways to fix problems due to which it's difficult to print on a network:
- Install the printer driver
- Check the spooler
- Registry editing
Install the printer driver
The problem can be due to the printer driver that is not installed properly for which you need to reinstall the printer driver. Uninstall the currently installed driver and start the installation process. During the installation you need to choose the option to proceed with installation without connecting the printer. After the installation, open the printer’s option from the control panel and choose the properties option by right clicking on the printer option. Go to the ports tab and click to add port and select the local port and then click the new port. For the port name, enter the network path and share name of your printer. Later click OK and verify the new port.
Check the spooler
The printing efficiency is increased by the spooler by copying your print task to a temporary file and then providing it to the printer when it’s ready. But if the spooler is out of space it may create problem in printing on the network so you need to check the spooler. You can disable the spooler and the Windows will send the print job directly to the printer. To test the spooler, you need to change to the computer which is physically connected to the printer.
You need to edit the registry keys if you encounter with the print problem on the network and for this you need to login as an administrator. Then download the registry fix file and right click on the downloaded file and select merge option. Click on yes to confirm and the Windows will confirm the registry keys if added successfully to your computer, later restart the computer.
