How to keep your printer cartridge in excellent working condition?
There are a number of ways by which users can ensure that their cartridges are in perfect working order. More importantly, there are preventative measures that can be taken to make sure that the functioning of the cartridges does not affect the way the printer functions.
These steps will ensure that the user’s printer is in perfect working condition for much longer.
- Handle with care
- Care for the attached print head
- Prevent drying of ink
Handle with care
First and foremost, users should always handle the cartridges with exceptional care to ensure that nothing happens to these delicate casings full of ink. As there are two main types of cartridges, there are two ways to maintain them and keep them from malfunctioning. The HP, Lexmark, and Dell cartridges have a print head at their bottom requiring exceptional care. The print head —is placed inside printer first— should never be touched as it is incredibly sensitive. It can easily be scratched or the nozzle could be damaged in the casing of the cartridge. If the print head somehow gets damaged, as the only line of communication between cartridge and the printer, the cartridge may become unrecognizable by the machine itself. The cartridge comes with plastic that covers the print head, if it happens to dry out or has been handled far too often, the user should soak the cartridge in warm water for about one minute in a shallow dish.
Care for the attached print head
The Epson, Canon, and Brother cartridges are less susceptible to damage or malfunction because they do not come with a print head attached to the cartridge. They are, in fact, more prominently described as ink tanks —quite literally, plastic tanks that hold the ink inside of them and are completely sealed from the bottom. The most important thing that any user must consider is making sure that the seal at the bottom is not broken or damaged unless, of course, they are being put directly into the printer. If the seal is broken, the cartridge will dry out, and cannot be fixed – making it useless.
Prevent drying of ink
A common printer problem with cartridges is that they dry out quite easily. As was mentioned previously, the best way to ensure that any cartridge does not dry out is, in the case of the HP, Lexmark, and Dellcartridges, stay away from the print head. Exposed print head may clog and hamper the ink flow. In the case of the Epson, Canon and Brother cartridges, the user must ensure that the sealed bottom is never broken.
