Printer sharing in Windows® XP®
Advantages of printer sharing and how to share a printer in Windows XP
The printer is primarily attached by a printer cable or a USB cable to a computer which serves as a document source. Printers with built-in network interfaces are called network printers, typically wireless or Ethernet based, and can serve as a hard copy device for any user connected to the network. Printers are designed to support both the local and the network connected users at the same time. A few advanced printers can directly interface to an electronic media such as memory cards, or to devices such as digital cameras, scanners etc.

Need for sharing printers
You can share your printer installed in your Windows XP based computer with other computers that are connected to your network or computer. Sharing of the printer helps you and other people of the connected network to make use of the same printer to give print commands.
Benefits of sharing printers
The major benefit of sharing the printer with other computers in the network is that the other computers can make use of the same printer for taking prints. You do not need to buy one printer for each computer and it saves a lot of money. Sharing the printer in the network helps the other computers in the network to directly give print commands using your Internet connection and there is no need to use any removable media for the same purpose.
Tips to share printers
Click on 'Start' menu, then 'Printers and Faxes', then right click on the icon of the printer installed in your computer and select 'Properties'. You can access the sharing tab and click 'Ok'. You can install the printer on each of your other computers in the network by opening the 'Printers and Faxes' window, click on 'Add Printer' to bring up the printer installation wizard, then click on 'Next', highlight the 'Network printer' option, click and browse for the printer. Now click and select 'Next' and browse to the computer where the printer resides and double-click the computer and highlight the printer before clicking 'Next' and 'Finish'.
