Methods for Clearing Printer Queue
Get to know more about various methods to delete the queue in the printer server
Printer is an electronic device used to perform printing tasks. The printer is capable of producing a text or graphics of the documents which are stored in electronic form on a print media such as paper or transparencies. The printer could be either connected to a single computer or shared in a network. The benefit of sharing the printer in a network is that the same printer could be used by all the computers to do the printing jobs. The printer queue shows the details of the printing tasks given by you. You could manage your printing jobs by making alterations in the printer queue. Several issues also occur with the printer queue. If the printer queue is full, then the printer does not respond and could not take printouts. This issue could be prevented by clearing the printer queue and redoing the task.
Below are various steps to delete the queue in the printer server:
- Using Control Panel
- Cancel Menu Command on the Printer
- Stopping Print Spooler
Using Control Panel
From the start menu, click on 'Run'. Type 'control printers' in the opened box and then click 'OK'. Then the printer icon appears. Right click on the printer icon and select the 'Open' option. If you want to clear the printer queue list, then click on the 'Cancel all document' option on the printer menu. If you want to cancel the particular print job which you had given by mistake then right click on that job and click on 'Cancel'.
Cancel Menu Command on the Printer
This is an obvious method of deleting the printer queue. You have to find a cancel button or a cancel menu command on the printer and by pressing it you could remove the print jobs from the printer queue. Every printer does not possess this provision. This method is only applicable if your printer is provided with a cancel button facility. If this is not provided with your printer then you could delete the printer queue by simply turning the printer off and then on.
Print jobs are sent to the printer in the form of spooled files. These spooled files are put in an impermanent location so that the printer could access a print queue and print jobs at its own speed. You could delete the printer queue by stopping the printer spooler and deleting the spooled files. This method includes starting the notepad, copying a command script and running the command script file.
