Printer Error Messages
What are Printer error messages? How to get rid of them?
Printers issue error messages when they cannot perform a job. It signifies that you have to fix something, and tries to point you in the direction of what’s causing the problem. Earlier, the error messages used to be in the form of codes that would have to be looked up in a manual, but to make things easier; they have now been replaced with printer error messages. Though some are hard to interpret, others can easily be understood.
The Common error messages are:
- Paper Jam
- Cartridges error
- Memory error
- Network and driver errors
A paper jam means that paper was not properly loaded into the paper tray and is now stuck inside the printer. You can easily take out the paper and restart the printer or, if available, click the paper jam button. Each manufacturer has a preferred way of dealing with this, and you should follow their advice.
An overprint means that the job is too complex for the printer too handle. Some printers show this error when you are either printing a .pdf file, an unusually sized document, a document with a complicated font style, or something that it is in color. Also, never try to print corrupted files. For this error message, either update your driver or just altogether stop printing those types of files.
Cartridges are the little boxes of ink inside the printer. If the printer can’t detect any cartridges, try replacing the cartridges, and if that doesn’t work, uninstall then replace your printer’s drivers.
There are small memory chips inside the printer for temporary data storage during data spooling. A memory error is displayed if these chips are faulty.
Network and driver errors
If the printer has lost connection, check if all wires are plugged in. In any case, it is probably a hardware defect, so get it checked. This is also usually the case when the error message is about no power supply. If the printer keeps registering an error about data, a driver or some kind of third party firmware is either malfunctioning or intercepting data. Uninstall them, and replace the ones that are absolutely necessary. If it still refuses to work, the formatter board is probably not working properly. Have it replaced.
