How to add a printer to Windows 8-based device
One of the biggest advantages of the upcoming Windows 8 operating system is that setting up a network is very easy on it. Windows 8 can set up almost all branded printers by itself by automatically installing all the required software and drivers. You have to simply plug in the printer to the Windows 8-based device. The device will detect that a printer has been connected and will look for the necessary software and driver automatically.
To check the status of printer installation, you have to open the Charms window and click on ‘Settings’ and then on ‘Change PC settings’. Then you have to click on ‘Devices’ in the left-hand column. Here you will see that Windows is in the process of installing the printer drivers. When the progress bar disappears, it means the installation is complete.
Now go to the ‘Start Screen’ and type “printer”. Click on ‘Settings’, and then click on ‘Devices and Printers’. Here you can view all the printers connected to your Windows 8-based computer. The printer name with a green tick on it is the default printer of your computer.
If you wish to share the printer with other computers in your Home Group, go back to the ‘Start Screen’, type “printer” and click on ‘Settings’. Click ‘Share printers’ on the left. This will load the PC Settings app on the Home Group section. Tap on the slider for ‘Printers and devices’ to make the printer available on the network.
