Tips For Print Server Installation
Get to know more about print server and methods for the installation of the print server
A printer server or a print server is a device that is connected to a number of printers and to client computers over a network. It accepts print jobs from all the computers in the network and could send the jobs to the appropriate printers. Print servers come in different forms and are sometimes integrated into other devices. A standalone print server is a device which enables your printer to communicate with all the other computers interconnected to your network. Recently, there has been a huge increase in the use of computers and printers in offices and homes. In the past there was a single printer for performing all the printing jobs in a whole network. It was done by plugging and unplugging the printer to different computers or using the Windows print sharing functions or by e-mailing the files to the PC that's directly hooked up to your printer. The single printer server could prevent all these difficulties. Some printers are designed with a built-in Ethernet port, which makes them inherently networkable. But if your printer is not network-ready then a print server is the only alternative.
Below mentioned are the tips for the installation of the printer server:
- Make Proper Hardware Connection
- Addressing Server
- Managing Print Server's Web Configuration Tool
Make Proper Hardware Connection
Firstly, connect the printer server to a network port on your router with the aid of a straight-through Ethernet cable. Make sure that you have connected the printer to the print server using the USB cable that in turn connects the printer to your PC. Then switch on the printer and plug in the print server's power adapter. Then connect the printer to the printer server.
After connecting the printer to the printer server and printer server to the router, you must make your device available in the network. You should assign an IP address for your print server which makes it work in the network. You have to choose a static IP address, which is in a similar range of the print server's default IP address. The selected the IP address should not be currently used on your network and should be within the same subnet mask.
The configuration tool of the printer server could be accessed by entering the print server's IP address in your web browser. Using the configuration tool you should change the IP address of the print server to the one which is more appropriate for your network. After making the proper changes you should click the 'Save' button. The port settings section in the configuration tab, gives you the information about the universal serial bus (USB) port.
