Unable to Print Files in Network Printer
What is the technique to connect a printer on a network and to fix the problems that the printer does not print on a network?
Network printer is a printer that is connected to a wired or wireless network. The major advantage of the network printer is that you might be able to access the network and print from any computer in a network. You could share the printer across a network by selecting the appropriate printer from the Printer icon in the Control Panel. A network printer might be connected to a server or workstation that might be used by any user connected to the network. Once a home network is established, it is easy to set up all of the computers to share a single printer. You need not access from one system or another just to print out an e-mail message in network printer. Other computer peripherals could be shared similarly such as network scanners, Webcams, and CD burners. Some of the common problems in network printers are issues with print job, issues in network cable and issues with the Ethernet card. Various models of network printers are launched by Cannon, HP, Dell etc.
The following are some tips and techniques to fix printer not printing in a network:
- Advantages of network printers
- Check Ethernet Cable
- Check Ethernet card
Advantages of network printers
The advantage of network printers is that, you will be able to send a print job to the same printer from another workstation. If the job prints, it might let you to know the problem lies with the workstation and not the printer and also prints a configuration page. The procedure for printing a configuration page might vary, so better refer the owner's manual that came with your printer. For menu-driven models, the most common method might be to point to the 'Information' menu and choose 'Print Configuration Page' from the list.
Check Ethernet Cable
You need to review the configuration page and find the networking section. The printer need to have a valid IP address, expressed as a series of four numbers, each separated by a period. If there is no IP address listed, or if the status shows 'disconnected', there might be something is wrong with the network card or the cable. You need to remove and reset the network cable running into the printer. Also remove and reset the end of the cable that goes into the wall jack. If the printer still does not work, replace the cable with a new one.
You need to replace the Ethernet card in the printer, if the unit still does not communicate with the network. If you have more than one network printer, try to swap the Ethernet card with one that really works. This might tell you if the network card is bad. After replacing the Ethernet card, connect the printer cable and run a configuration page to test the network status of the printer. If the printer is still disconnected, you need to replace the network card.
