Features of different printers
There are different features showcased per printer type. You just have to know how you want your print jobs to look and what is the data that you will be printing. If you will be printing photos you will need a printer that has a memory card reader which lets you insert the memory card of your camera without the need of a computer and PictBridge compatibility which lets your printer connect to the camera. You will also need a printer that has LCD viewer so you can view the images that you will print. Resolution is the main feature that every consumer should check as this is the main measure of print quality. Resolution in monitor is different as it is measured by the pixels, whereas for printers it is measured by dpi or dots per inch.
Guidelines for changing settings
You can change the printer settings on the Print page; there is an option that says Properties. You can change the print quality, choose paper type and size and even select if it will be printed in color or black and white. You can set the print orientation, whether it is landscape or portrait. Landscape is horizontal in shape, whereas portrait is vertical. There are options for the print quality; this would include the amount of ink used. Changing them can save you money for ink cartridges. Every setting is different for every print job; you can create virtual printers for every setting that you use the most. Use the Printer Wizard for Windows® to make customized settings. You can access it from Control Panel then go to Printers and Faxes. Click on Add Printer to start the wizard, select the printer from the list and don’t forget to choose Keep existing folder. Assign a name for the printer; you can label it according to its settings or use. Do no set it as a default printer, just click finish and the virtual printer is ready to use.
Tips for changing settings
While changing printer settings, keep in mind that these settings will be based on your printing needs. Use ‘Best’ setting option for crisp black, white and richest blend of colors for quality images. This is best for official documents such as final reports, business letters or resumes. Normal settings give you rich colors and sharp contrast but use less ink compared to the Best setting. Draft is the setting that uses the least amount ink, thus printing is faster. The quality is low compared to Normal, and you can use this setting when printing items that you don’t have to keep. For the print orientation, you can use Landscape for spreadsheets and Portrait for most word processing documents.
