Connection Problems in Network Printer

Printer is a peripheral device that produces a hard copy i.e., permanent readable text or graphics of documents stored in an electronic form. Often, network printers may face connection problems. Due to this connection problem, you may get "Access is Denied" error when you try to print to a shared printer on your home network. You may not find a printer that you want to add in the network folder. Sometimes, your Add Printer Wizard may not detect your Bluetooth or wireless printer. Due to this, you may not be able to change the network printer properties or manage the print queue for the printer. Finally, you will not be able to print a document on a network printer.
- Identify the problem
- Remove and reset network cable
- Replace the network card
Identify the problem
You need to send a print job to the same printer from another workstation. If the job prints, it may let you know that the problem lies with the workstation and not the printer. Also, print a configuration page. The procedure for printing a configuration page may vary, so better you consult the owner's manual that came with your printer. For menu-driven models, the most common method may be to point to the "Information" menu and choose "Print Configuration Page" from the list.
Remove and reset network cable
You need to review the configuration page and find the networking section. The printer need to have a valid IP address, expressed as a series of four numbers, each separated by a period. If there is no IP address listed, or if the status shows ‘disconnected’, there may be something wrong with the network card or the cable. You need to remove and reset the network cable in the printer. Also, remove and reset the end of the cable that goes into the wall jack. If the printer still does not work, replace the cable with a new one.
You need to replace the network card in the printer, if it still does not communicate with the network. If you have more than one network printer, try to swap the network card. This may tell you if the network is faulty or not. To remove the network card, remove the cable and loosen the thumbscrews on each side of the card. Slide the card out of the printer and place the new card. After that, attach the printer cable and run a configuration page to test the network status of the printer. If the printer is still disconnected, you need to replace the network card.
