Inkjet and Laser Printers
What are the difference between Inkjet and Laser printers and how do these printers work?
Printers are the hardware devices which would produce hard copies of data present in the system. So, many types of printers are available. In order to work these printers, you need to install the drivers for them. Drivers are the software programs written for the working of these printers. Inkjet printers are types of computer printers that would create digital image by the propulsion of varying sized droplets of ink on the page. Laser printer would produce high quality graphics and text. These printers would employ xerographic printing process. Both Laser and Inkjet printers have got difference in their working, features and their performance.
Following points explain the difference between both:
- Working of Inkjet printer
- Working of Laser printer
- Difference between Inkjet and Laser printer
Working of Inkjet printer
In this printer the ink would be emitted from nozzles when they pass over media. In this liquid ink in various colors is being squirted onto paper and also on other media, like plastic film and canvas, in order to build an image. Then a print head would scan the page in horizontal strips. This is done by using the printer's motor assembly, in order to move it from left to right and back again, while the paper is rolled up in vertical steps, again by the printer. In that way the row of the image is printed. Then the paper would moves on, ready for the next strip. In order to speed up the print head would do horizontal and vertical lines at a time.
Working of Laser printer
In Laser printer, the page to be printed is scanned into the printer. Then it is taken by Laser. It would fire onto a cylinder a backwards image of the page to be printed. At the places where laser hits, the cylinder gets a slight electric charge. There is a toner, similar to the stuff found in photocopiers. This toner is then attracted to the cylinder. The paper would then receive a slight opposite charge to the cylinder and then attracts the toner. This would passes through a roller in order to heat the toner and melt it onto the paper. After that the cylinder is then scraped clean, uncharged. Then repeats the process.
The inkjet printer and laser printer differs from various aspects such as cost per page, resolution, speed and connectivity. The resolution which is measured in DPI is 1200 by 1200 for an inkjet printer. However, an expensive inkjet printer can offer up to 4800 by 1200 DPI. On the other hand, a less expensive model of laser printer will only offer 600 by 600 DPI while an expensive model would range up to 2400 by 2400 DPI.
