- Disconnected status of printer
- Problems with Ethernet card
- IP Address issues
Disconnected status of printer
You need to review the configuration page and go to 'networking' section. The printer need to have a valid IP address, expressed in a series of four numbers, each separated by a period. If there is no IP address listed, or if the status shows 'disconnected', there can be the problem with network card or the cable. You need to remove and reset the network cable running into the printer. Also. remove and reset the end of the cable that goes into the wall jack. If the printer still does not work, replace the cable with a new one.
Problems with Ethernet card
You need to replace the Ethernet card in the printer if the unit still does not communicate with the network. If you have more than one network printer, try to swap the Ethernet card with one that really works. By this you can confirm if the network card is bad. After replacing the Ethernet card, attach the printer cable and run a configuration page to test the network status of the printer. If the printer is still disconnected, you need to replace the network card.
IP Address issues
If the network of computers makes use of a single router, then all the computers should operate using the same subnet, but each should be provided with a unique IP address. You can ensure this by checking that the subnet mask is configured to the same value for all units. If you do not have a unique IP address, you may face issues while sharing the printer. Make sure that there are no IP address issues in the computer.
