Troubleshoot Printer Problems

Three Most Common Ways to Troubleshoot Printer Problems
Just like all electronics, printers often experience problems. Printers can experience problems such as, driver issues, paper jams, and ink cartridge problems. These problems are nothing more than a nuisance; but these problems can wreak havoc on a home or office if the user doesn’t know the most common ways to troubleshoot printer problems. Troubleshooting the printer is not that hard; there are a few simple ways to fix the common problems that are experienced with a standard printer.
Here is a List of the Most Common Ways to Troubleshoot Printer Problems:
- Fixing Paper Jam
- Updating/Reinstalling your Driver
- Print Quality
Fixing Paper Jam
Paper jam is the most common printer problem. Often a time, when printing several pages, the paper feeder might ‘eat’ more than three or four sheets at once which make it stuck. When this happens, turn off the printer immediately and slowly try to pull out the paper in the direction of the paper path. Do not attempt to pull the paper back into the paper feeder because this can damage the printer. To avoid paper jams, make sure that you loosen the stack of papers before putting them into the feeder. Run your fingers through the edge of the papers to make sure that the sheets are loose.
Updating/Reinstalling your Driver
Drivers are a computer’s bridge to communicate with the hardware/peripherals installed and connected to the printer. If the computer does not recognize the printer, then chances are that a wrong driver or an outdated driver is installed in the computer. In some cases, the printer driver is not installed at all. To troubleshoot printer problem, check the installed driver that comes with your printer and reinstall it in your computer. If the CD is damaged or lost, don’t fret; the printer drivers can also be found at your manufacturer’s website. Search the help and support page of your manufacturer for the compatible drivers for your printer and download the latest version of the driver.
Print Quality
If there are no issues with the communication, chances are that the printer problem is with the printer head and the ink cartridge. To troubleshoot printer problems, check the printer head and see if there is dust or dirt stuck in it. Dust can damage a printer head and diminish print quality. Also, check if there is sufficient ink supply in your cartridge. Most software programs that come with the printer have a way to identify the volume of ink left inside the printer. If there are blots on the prints, clean the cartridge using the clean function of the printer software.
