Missing USB printer port

Is the USB printer port missing from your computer?
Since USB connection allows the computer to send information easily to the printer, most computers have USB ports. In order to connect a USB printer, your computer should have the USB ports. If the USB ports are missing from your computer, it will not be able to connect the USB printer or might not even detect it. This makes your USB printer a non usable device as it can be an unpleasant experience. This issue can occur when you uninstall the old printer from the computer as it had some problems resulting in drivers being corrupted, also if you uninstall the USB port from your computer. When you remove the USB printer from your computer and plug-in another device to that port, there is a possibility of the printer port being changed. It can also happen if the USB port on the computer is not working. You can add a printer using an existing port and select USB001 which is Virtual Printer Port for USB. There can be chances when it doesn’t give the option to select USB printer port.
Below mentioned are some ways to replace the missing USB printer port:
- Reinstall printer driver
- Check Device Manger
- Change registry settings
Reinstall printer driver
In most of the cases, there might be issues with the USB printer driver. If so, reinstall the printer drivers and check. You can install the printer driver from the CD which came along with the package or can be downloaded from Printer manufacturer’s website. Start the installation wizard and it will install the USB Printer port driver.
Check Device Manger
Device Manager contains the list of devices connected to your computer and their status. Check whether the USB ports are configured and installed properly over there. If it shows a yellow exclamation, then that means there is some problem with the USB device driver. You can try to update the driver and if that does not work, you need to reinstall it. This can be done with the drivers CD which came along with the PC.
In registry, there is a particular key to display the devices in Device Manager. Check whether the settings are correct over there. If not, you need to change the registry settings manually or by creating a fix.reg file to update the registry. After that unplug all USB devices including hidden devices and then restart the computer twice. Once you reconnect the USB drive, the printer port will be displayed properly.
