Solutions to problems in HP Printers
What are error codes in HP printers?
While HP printers are known for their pace and consistency, even the most advanced of them encounter troubles from time to time. Whether it is the infamous paper jam, ink smearing, mis-feeds, ghosting, or mysterious printer error messages, these issues can really get in your way and prove to be productivity killers. Experiencing downtime with your HP printer can be very annoying, but there are simple tips that would help you out in your troubleshooting endeavors. If the ink begins to appear faded, the first step you should take is cleaning the heads of your HP printer. If this just fixes the issue temporarily or doesn’t solve it at all, then replace the cartridge. There are other problems also which just need troubleshooting rather than replacing devices and drivers.
Different error codes in HP printers are given below:
- Error 1 – Paper Out
- Error 13 – Paper Jam
- Error code 20 – Printer not activated
Error 11 – Paper Out
A buildup of toner on the borders of the tray which slide into the HP printer can sometimes cause problems. Then take a sharp tool, like a razor blade and scrape the buildup off these edges. Also, check for free movement of the sensor arm. The sensor flag might get knocked out of place when a paper jam occurs and the tray is pulled out abruptly. Most of the times, this could simply be reinstalled. If it is broken, you would have to replace the sensor flag. Another problem could be defective paper control sensor PCB. Sometimes, these do fail and would need to be replaced.
Error 13 – Paper Jam
The error 13 arises due to the paper jam in HP printer. In this case, check the paper and make sure it meets the paper specifications of your printer. Tractor feed paper with the edges ripped off does not seem to work very well. Tremendously heavy or thick paper is also a problem. You shall check the HP paper specification guide for more information regarding this. Also be careful with labels. Use only labels designed to take the heat generated by the fuser assembly. Then check the paper path for toner or paper dust buildup. You could also have a defective or dirty exit sensor in your HP printer. If it is really so, you would have to replace or clean as needed.
This is a common error occurring with many HP printer users worldwide. There are quite a few reasons why this error may show, including having an outdated/erroneous printer driver, not installing the printer software you need on your PC correctly, your printer may not be the default printer, or having registry errors in your PC. Before proceeding with the solution, you have to first check if the HP printer is working. You can do this by printing a test page yourself. Make sure that the printer you are using is set as default printer. It is highly recommended that you also “clean out the registry” of your PC by using a good registry cleaner program.
