Apple® releases printer drivers for OS X
iOS giant Apple also has a major role in printing domain. Its print system is also based upon the open-source Common UNIX Printing System (CUPS) technology. CUPS have been acquired in Mac for quite some time now. From time to time, Apple also releases driver updates for printers so as to make them compatible with new devices.
Apple has now come up with new driver updates for Lion and Snow Leopard running Mac systems. These include scanning and printing services from Canon, Samsung, Ricoh, Infotec, InfoPrint, and NRG.
Majority of drivers include the packages of size 16MB and 34MB. Canon drivers are bulky with 300 MB since it comprises software for various other devices.
You can download these driver sets from Apple Support Downloads webpage. There is another alternative to downloading as well wherein you can use the software update feature to install drivers. With software updates, the appropriate drivers for your printers will get detected and hence you can install the appropriate ones.
