HP dominates sluggish Australian printer market
Hewlett Packard Co. dominated the Australian printer market in the year 2011. The total market share of HP stood at 50% for the year followed by Canon at 18% and Roland at 10%. This is indeed a remarkable performance by HP in a rather sluggish economy that saw a decline in the use of large format printers (LFPs) used for printing billboards, indoor ads and digital photography by 35% to 1250 units. However, there was an increase of 6% in the LFPs used for technical printing. All in all 2,560 units of LFPs meant for architectural, engineering and construction were sold during the year.
As per the estimates of International Data Corporation the LFP market experienced a decline by 12% and stood at $21 million. According to their estimates, the prevalent economic conditions and the anticipation of a new printing technology to be revealed at the LFP DRUPA event led to the decline in printer sales during the year.
