HP to merge its printer and PC units

Hewlett Packard Co. is expected to merge its PC and printer businesses. If the reports are to be believed, the merger is mainly because the company intends to save money. Once considered to be the lifeblood of HP, its printers and ink business is on a downward path amidst global competition and declining sales. HP is also “numero uno” when it comes to PC sales worldwide. Yet, with the advent of tablets and smartphones, PC sales are also waning.
According to reports, printer-PC merger will lead to job cuts and eventually savings for HP.
Despite the downward spiral that both printer and PC businesses are going through off-late, it is worth noting here that their combined worth is $64 billion, i.e. 50% of the overall HP revenues.
