Information Technology Services, ITS is planning to introduce an innovative pilot printer program in the Academic Commons, w.e.f February 22. According to the program, the students would need to enter their Occidental log-in information and also swipe their ID cards whenever they want to print their documents.
The basic aim of this program is to decrease the paper consumption and also to reduce costs. The program will prevent unnecessary printing. An individual would swipe the ID card and print only when it is needed actually. Misuse of Printers will also be avoided to a certain extent with this initiative.
Associate Vice President for Information Technology Services (ITS) James Uhrich said, "There's not going to be any charging for printing. There's no limit on what you can print, how you can print, how much you can print. It's simply that you will be required to release that print job with a card swipe or with a login prior to it coming out of the printer."
