Magazines from Printers
It is still on the phase of ideation, but if it materializes, you can actually have magazines straight from your printers. It means that you no more need to wait for magazines to be delivered at your home as your printer will become your next “delivery boy”.
Yes, you heard it right! Hewlett-Packers (HP) and magazine mogul, Conde Nast, are proposing a partnership to offer printer that can print the content from Conde Nast magazines. These magazines will include Allure, Wired, and Epicurious.
From the business point of view, if this deal is materialized, both the companies are going to win hands down. Conde Nast will sell its magazines without incurring any publishing or mailing charge and Hewlett-Packers gets to sell more cartridges, because printing one magazine will require extra amount of ink. HP has already introduced an Instant Ink subscription plan offering discounts to monthly customers.
However, if we look into it deep, there is still much to be thought about. Would the customer spend so much money on paper and cartridges on a magazine? Would not a subscription of the magazine or buying it from the news stand make it cheaper? And will people really print in this digital age? The whole deal is yet in a half-baked stage; nothing is either finalized or announced. But, the whole idea seems a bit absurd especially in this digital age. Will customers want bulk of printed material lying around there house, won’t the magazine that is beautifully printed and bound be a better option?
