The changing face of printing industry is making a lot of difference. In a special Printer Night conducted by the Independent Publishers Association of Ontario (IPAO) in Toronto, professionals from the industry discussed with small publishers the ways to save time and money.
Professionals advised opting for online proofing, which can help publishers save a lot of money by comparing a printed copy of a product with another onscreen one. This can reduce paper cost.
Another tip given by a sales professional, Jack Tachdjian, suggested getting prior one-year long contracts with the paper mills to avoid additional expenses at the time of sudden increase in prices.
Some other suggestions included —
--- Publishers can protect the color of the proofs from fading down by wrapping and keeping them in a dark place.
--- Publishers can ask advertisers to bear the costs incurred because of gatefolds.
--- Spending some time at Chapters Indigo bookstore (by Indigo Books and Music) to take a look at magazines can help get ideas and pick up the ongoing trends.
The professionals also highlighted on the importance of rapport shared between a publisher and the printer
firms. They hinted that a nice approach is crucial to bargains and benefits.
