3D Printed Jaw Implant for 83-year-old
Printers and body parts have nothing in common. However, when technology comes in, everything becomes related to each other. An unbelievable yet true medical usage of printer has been highly applauded. An eighty three year old woman got her jaw replaced and the new one was actually printed from the 3D Printer. Incredible indeed!
The woman got an artificial jaw implant that was created using the 3D printer, in which laser was used to melt Titanium powder. The artificial implant was designed using the jaw’s computer model. It was printed at 33 layers per millimeter intricately, thus resembling the real jaw. It took merely few hours for the 3D printer to print the jaw, post which it was treated with a bioceramic coating to use it for surgical purposes. The surgery was also completed in few hours that usually takes around 20 hours.
LayerWise is the corporation that has a major role to play in printing the 3D jaw for the 83-year-old woman.
